Custom House Sign Cut Types Explained: In-depth, Raised, Flush & No Base -

This guide walks through the full installation process for a no-base acrylic house sign using the supplied stencil. It’s designed to help you achieve clean alignment and a secure bond. (Add the installation video above for a quick visual walkthrough.)
For best results, install onto a smooth, clean, dry surface. Avoid dusty, chalky, flaking, or freshly painted walls (paint should be fully cured before applying any adhesive).
Start by cleaning the installation area thoroughly. Lightly spray isopropyl alcohol (or a similar cleaner) onto the surface, then wipe it clean with a lint-free cloth. Make sure the area is completely dry before moving to the next step.
Tip: Avoid household cleaners that leave a residue (like glass cleaners with additives), as they can reduce adhesion.
Plan your placement before anything sticks. Use a pencil and a spirit level to mark light guide lines on the wall where the sign will sit. These lines act as your reference for keeping everything straight, level, and centred.
Tip: Keep your lines light so they’re easy to erase afterwards.
Turn the stencil over and carefully pop out all cut-out pieces from the back — including numbers, letters, and the tree design. Take your time here so the stencil stays neat and sits flat against the wall.
Hold the stencil up to the wall and align it with your guide lines. Once you’re happy with the position, use the supplied masking tape to temporarily secure the stencil. Press the stencil flat so it doesn’t lift or shift while you place the characters.
Tip: Add tape to multiple sides to prevent movement, especially if you’re installing outdoors where wind can catch the stencil.
Work one piece at a time. Peel off the backing from the double-sided tape on each character (and the tree piece), then place it into its matching cut-out in the stencil.
Tip: If it’s a cooler day, a slightly warmer surface helps adhesion. Avoid installing on very cold surfaces, or in damp conditions.
Once all pieces are in place, remove the stencil slowly and evenly. Peel it back with steady pressure so you don’t knock or shift any freshly applied characters.
Tip: If you notice any edge lifting, pause and press the character firmly again before continuing to peel the stencil away.
After the stencil is removed, go over each character and apply a final firm press. This helps ensure consistent contact between the adhesive and the wall surface.
Avoid touching or cleaning the sign for 24–48 hours while the adhesive fully bonds. If the area is exposed to weather, try to keep it dry during this time.
Stop, re-align it to your guide lines, and re-tape securely before continuing. Alignment is easiest to correct before all pieces are installed.
Press firmly again to activate the adhesive. If the surface is dusty, textured, or slightly chalky, adhesion can be reduced — proper surface prep is essential.
